MARANGES & SANTENAY - THE TERROIRS OF DOMAINE BATTAULT

Lands of

NUANCES

In Santenay, our vines grow in soils characterized by limestone. At the top of the slopes, grey limestone is found up to an altitude of approximately 500 meters. Lower down, the soils become more varied: oolitic limestone, white oolitic limestone, marl, and layers of limestone. Our plots are well-exposed, from east to south, which helps achieve excellent ripeness. These soils produce precise, straightforward wines with a fine structure. In the Maranges region, the plots naturally extend those south of Santenay, with brown calcareous soils and calcareous marl that contribute freshness and substance. We work with these nuances. They guide our work, day after day.

For the white wines, we choose direct pressing and stemless juice. They rest for a few days in cold stainless steel tanks before settling, then ferment and age in barrels for ten months.

Two names that resonate:

MARANGES & SANTENAY

Our 17 hectares are located between Maranges and Santenay, south of the Côte de Beaune. These are magnificent Burgundy terroirs where the soils change rapidly: stone, clay, limestone, and varying depths depending on the plot. We work with these differences, without seeking uniformity. Each place has its constraints, its strengths, its rhythm.
